What can I expect with spider vein treatment??

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a time-tested technique for the removal of spider veins. Using a very fine needle, a sclerosing (hardening of body tissues) solution is injected into the problem vein. The formulation irritates the vein walls, causing the capillary to close and die. Blood is automatically rerouted through healthy veins and over time, the body harmlessly metabolizes the blood vessel. For greater precision, Dr. Ostad uses an advanced ultrasound-guided technique in this minimally-invasive procedure. Sclerotherapy is up to 80% effective and appropriate for noticeable spider veins in the legs.

Laser vein treatment

The Excel®-V laser is the gold standard for treating spider veins on the face (telangiectasia), legs, and body. This device uses a wavelength of light specifically focused on red pigmentation, so it is also useful in improving rosacea, scars, and hemangioma (red spots on skin). Blood inside treated veins coagulates from heat generated by targeted pulses of light energy. The vessel is destroyed and absorbed by the body, and blood flow is naturally redirected. This treatment is well-tolerated, with pulses of laser energy generally described as a stinging sensation. The device has a built-in cooling mechanism to maintain a comfortable temperature for surface skin.

What is the recovery like after spider vein treatment?

Compression stockings must be worn for several weeks after sclerotherapy. You may experience bruising, raised red areas, lines or dots of darkened skin, and small skin sores at the injection sites. You may return to work or normal activities with very few restrictions. Avoid strenuous exercise and overexertion for a few days after treatment to allow time for healing. After laser vein treatment, you can expect minimal post-procedure discomfort and little downtime. You may experience slight swelling, bruising, or redness for approximately 48 hours.

How soon will I see results after spider vein treatment?

After sclerotherapy, treated spider veins usually fade within a few days, although, in some cases it may take a month or longer for final results to appear. After laser vein treatment, significant improvement appears in as little as two weeks and continues for several months.
