Fraxel DUAL laser therapy, available from Dr. Ostad’s New York Dermatology practice, is a powerful, but gentle skin resurfacing solution. It is a non-ablative laser, meaning that it does not actually remove skin layers. Instead, it triggers rapid cell turnover for dramatic results with minimal downtime.

The technology behind Fraxel DUAL

Fraxel is a leader in fractionated laser technology. These devices create microscopic columns in skin, which can reach deep layers. The DUAL technology combines the benefits of two different wavelengths, 1550 and 1927, for a uniquely versatile and powerful device.

About the Procedure

Dr. Ostad will conduct a consultation and skin evaluation before recommending any procedures. If you are a good candidate for treatment with our Fraxel laser in New York, he will discuss the treatment and recovery. This procedure is very gentle and efficient, resulting in little to no downtime. In fact, many of our patients come in during their lunch breaks for treatment.

You may notice mild redness or swelling in the area for a day or two, and possibly flaking for a few days. Dr. Ostad will advise you about post-treatment skincare. You will need to protect your skin from the sun, but there are no restrictions on activities after Fraxel DUAL treatment.

About Ablation

“Ablation” refers to removal of tissue by surgery or other methods. Ablative laser resurfacing removes the entire outer layer of skin.

Non-ablative laser resurfacing improves the condition of the skin from within. This difference is significant in terms of recovery time and lasting results.

A non-ablative technique uses a fractional laser – a focused beam of light broken into a multitude of pinpoints. It delivers heat into skin, creating microthermal columns of controlled injury, without harm to surrounding tissues. Healing is much faster with the fractional approach (just a few days), and there is minimal risk of infection or complications.

Pigmented cells in the epidermis are vaporized. Deeper skin layers respond with collagen remodeling. This tightens skin and smooths wrinkles over time, as collagen builds.

The Procedure

Skin is cleansed.

Although the procedure is well-tolerated, topical anesthetic may be applied if your skin is very sensitive.

The clinician makes a series of horizontal and vertical passes over the treatment area with the laser handpiece.

A cooling mechanism helps to maintain a comfortable temperature for surface skin.

Skin is pampered with a high-quality moisturizer.

  • You may return to work or other activities right away.
  • There can be pinkness or minor swelling, but it is temporary. We recommend cool compresses the first night, and ongoing moisturizer and sunscreen until healing is complete. Try not to sleep on the treated area for a few nights.
  • Several Fraxel laser treatments may be needed to achieve desired results. Many patients eagerly schedule periodic re-treatment to maintain youthful skin.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Fraxel dual laser therapy?

The Fraxel dual laser therapy treatment is a non-invasive treatment that helps the patient revive their skin. The treatment uses different ultrasound wavelengths — 1550 and 1927 to stimulate the healthy skin cells to surface up. The best part about the treatment is that it can be used on large body area and even multiple areas in one session.

How is Fraxel dual laser therapy different from Fraxel CO2?

The Fraxel dual laser therapy is the latest technology that uses the new wave length technology to treat the pigmentation and various other skin imperfections through the different wavelengths. The wavelength of 1927 is more comfortable for the first time users as the procedure is completed in 30 minutes only.

What kind of results can I expect from Fraxel dual laser therapy treatments?

The magnitude of the results vary from one patient to another. The results can be either subtle or dramatic: smooth and younger looking skin, improved tone and texture, lessening of pigmentation, reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, and reduction of acne and surgical scars.

How long will the results last?

The results depend upon your after care. If you continue to follow your recommended skin care regimen, then your results will be long lasting.

Is the Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 procedure safe?

Yes, fraxel dual therapy is an extremely safe procedure. It is also approved by FDA to treat actinic keratosis along with scars or acne and surgery, melasma, pigmented lesions and more. The treatment has received CE Mark to treat various skin conditions on face and other large parts of body.
