Microdermabrasion is a minimally-invasive procedure to renew skin tone and texture. It uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface to gently remove the damaged outer layer and rejuvenate the skin. This treatment can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, acne scarring, and other skin issues. Winter weather, wind, and unhealthy air quality all impact skin health and quality, and microdermabrasion works to restore your skin, so it looks and feels fresh, healthy, and smooth.

Am I a good candidate for microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a safe procedure for most skin types and colors. It exfoliates dead skin cells from the surface layer, revealing fresh, healthy skin. You may be a good candidate for microdermabrasion in NYC if you are troubled by any of the following:

  • Dull complexion
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores and blackheads
  • Age spots, brown spots, or hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Acne or acne scars
  • Sun damage

What should I expect with this treatment?

Our NYC microdermabrasion treatment is an in-office procedure that can be performed in less than an hour—even over your lunch break. It does not require anesthesia or a numbing agent. Prior to treatment, you will be seated in a reclining chair. Your skin will be cleansed, and you will be given protective eyewear. Your practitioner will pass a handpiece over your skin. Depending on your skin type and treatment goals, we may use a device that sprays fine crystals onto the skin, simultaneously suctioning away the exfoliant and dead skin cells. We may also use a diamond tip device for delicate facial areas where more control is necessary.

What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?

Our team of nurses and certified medical assistants administer microdermabrasion under the direct supervision of our board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Ariel Ostad. Your treatment and care are delivered with a level of medical knowledge and professionalism unavailable at a skincare spa. Microdermabrasion is a minimally-invasive skin treatment with many benefits:

  • Quick procedure—it can be done over your lunch hour

  • Safe treatment with minimal side effects
  • Brightens and smooths the complexion
  • Clears pores
  • Evens out skin tone
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and dark spots

Why have microdermabrasion in NYC?

The cold winter climate and environmental pollution in NYC, combined with high-stress lifestyles, can leave skin looking lackluster and tired. Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive treatment that wakes up the skin with a youthful glow.

When should I have microdermabrasion treatments?

For superior results, schedule regular microdermabrasion sessions to keep your complexion healthy and fresh. Microdermabrasion complements a variety of other facial rejuvenation techniques, such as injections. It also helps to restore brighter, softer skin following cosmetic surgeries.

Is there any downtime after microdermabrasion?

While there may be temporary pinkness, there are no side effects and there is no downtime with microdermabrasion. Your skin may feel dry and tight for the first day after treatment so a high-quality moisturizer and sunscreen are essential. You may wear makeup after 24 hours but should avoid sun exposure for several days.

What is the difference between microdermabrasion and dermabrasion?

Both microdermabrasion and dermabrasion are facial treatments performed to improve skin tone and texture by removing a layer (or layers) of the skin. However, dermabrasion is a medical technique that is considered a form of cosmetic surgery. It may be performed under local or general anesthesia. Microdermabrasion is a much less invasive treatment that only removes the surface skin cell layer.
