Saggy, wrinkly knee skin (also known as “knickles”) can begin to occur as early as your late 20’s. This may seem like a ridiculous concern, wrinkling knee skin is a common complaint in my practice. Although it is normal to have minimal excess skin above the knees for mobility, wrinkled knees can cause us to appear aged. You no longer need to fear wearing shorts and skirts.
Why does this happen?
Thanks to gravity and the aging process, our skin begins to experience a loss of elasticity, causing wrinkles, sagging knee skin. Another factor that can cause this effect is frequent weight loss and weight gain. This will cause this knee skin to stretch out, thus leaving us with wrinkled knee skin. The appearance of aged knees can also be due to sun damage since this is an area that is heavily exposed to sunlight in the summertime.
Although there is the surgical option of a knee lift, this may result in scarring, as well as other surgical risks. In my practice, we have the ability to correct sagging, wrinkly knee skin and allow you to proudly reveal those kneecaps without going under the knife.
How to correct wrinkly knee skin:
Skin firming treatments such as Ultherapy, Radiofrequency, and Microneedling can work to stimulate collagen and elastin production, causing the skin to firm and tighten.
Ultherapy- By using the power of ultrasound waves, Ultherapy can nonsurgically tighten loose knee skin. The Ultrasound waves are sent into the deep layers of the skin in order to stimulate elastin and collagen production. This safe procedure will tone, lift and tighten your knees. Results last 2-3 years.
Radiofrequency (EndyMed)- The EndyMed technology works to tone and tighten the knees by delivering a controlled dose of radiofrequency energy to the deep layers of the skin. The results are impressive and long-lasting, with no recovery period.
Microneedling- After applying a topical numbing cream, the special device creates a multitude of microchannels in the top layer of your skin. Microneedling is used to increase collagen production and firm the skin. A series of sessions is recommended in order to see optimal results.
Ways in which we can prevent sagging knees:
- Proper use of sunscreen SPF 30
- Proper nutrition
- Avoid frequent weight gain & loss
- Maintenance skin tightening visits (radiofrequency, ultrasound, & micro needling sessions)
