Dear Dr. Ostad,

I have noticed that my eyes look so tired no matter what I do! I am 36 and take good care of myself but they look older and worn out, even when I sleep. What are the best eye treatments to look refreshed?

Monica S.

Dear Monica:

This is one of the top concerns of my patients of all ages and the reason is a simple one: skin around the eyes is very thin and shows signs of sleeplessness, allergies and dehydration easily. The wonderful news is there have been some exciting advancements in non-invasive, non-surgical eye rejuvenation in recent years.

Here are several ways to revitalize the eyes:

Filler. Restylane is a fantastic filler to use in this area. Find an experienced injector to fill the hollows of the eyes. As the filler is made of hyaluronic acid, it also helps to stimulate collagen production. I suggest using a cannula to reduce dark circles, prevent bruising and minimize swelling.

Pelleve. This wonderful treatment uses radio frequency to stimulate collagen and improve fine lines and wrinkles. It also tightens the skin in this sensitive area. This procedure requires a series of treatments that are spaced approximately five months apart. There is no downtime and it offers excellent results.

Fraxel CO2. Fraxel laser is a solid option for those who want to address deeper, more stubborn lines. This is an ablative laser that is used to resurface the skin. The procedure requires a week to ten days of downtime and offers long lasting results.

It was with this concern in mind that I created my Gentle Retinol Complex which is the first low-dose retinoid formulated for sensitive and redness prone skin. The lotion contains a combination of ceramide, fatty acids and cholesterol that help fortify the skin’s natural moisture lipids. This silicone-based vehicle is fragrance-free and preservative-free which improves retinoid tolerance.
