Fat transfer, also called autologous fat transplantation, is fat taken from one area of your body and injected into another area instead of synthetic fillers. Fat transfers are a safe, non-allergenic way to recontour the face and add definition to the cheeks and chin for very a natural and long lasting result. You can also use fat transfers to correct atrophic aging of hands, post-surgical and post-traumatic defects as well as correcting facial deformities. Since the fat that is injected comes from your own body (typically the abdomen, thighs, or hips) there is no chance of an allergic reaction or “rejection.”
Fat grafting is performed in our onsite accredited surgical suite. The grafting area is anesthetized locally and the fat is removed with a small needle. Once removed, the fat is processed to remove excess fluids and prepared for reinjecting.
Harvesting the fat cells for reinjection is often performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as liposuction. When the fat is harvested during another procedure, it is often possible to harvest a larger amount of fat, then freeze and store the fat for injections when they become necessary. Fat grafts can be frozen and saved from twelve to eighteen months before they are disposed.
Dr. Ariel Ostad will customize an injectable treatment to suit your specific needs. Schedule a consultation to learn more about our other non-surgical options.
