We devote time and attention to look and feel young regardless of our age while enjoying what New York has to offer. As we age, environmental effects on the skin (sun damage, air pollution) as well as stress and other individual conditions start to take their toll. Fraxel laser is a popular and effective solution that allows you to restore a youthful look without surgery.
How Does Fraxel Laser Work?
The technology behind Fraxel treatments are as revolutionary as the results it can deliver. Unlike other laser treatments, Fraxel treatments are able to precisely treat thousands of microscopic areas of skin, using pinpoint laser beams that penetrate beneath the skin’s surface to eliminate old, damaged skin cells. Fraxel treatment stimulates the body’s own natural healing process which replaces damaged skin with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.
A Customized Fraxel Treatment
During your consultation, Dr. Ostad will listen to your concerns and thoroughly examine your facial skin. He will then recommend a treatment plan that can include the Fraxel laser in conjunction with other skin treatments. Each person has a unique complexion of color, tone and texture based on personal and external factors, which will be taken into account by Dr. Ostad when designing an effective treatment plan.
Unlike other laser technologies, Fraxel only treats five-to-thirty-five percent of a given skin area, leaving most of the skin surface untouched, quickening the healing process. This laser can treat sensitive body parts such as hands, chest and neck, due to its high level of accuracy and safety. In the first hours after a Fraxel treatment, you would feel that your skin is soft and lighter than before, even start to see changes to skin tone. In the next 3-6 months, additional improvement will continuously occur, as deep layers of your skin are healing and release collagen and elastin, natural proteins that will rejuvenate your skin.
Fraxel Delivers Results
Based on Dr. Ostad’s experience with Fraxel, which is consistent with years of research data, the laser can remove years from your appearance and contribute to long term youthful skin. Patients are advised to choose between a longer series of treatments with low-medium intensity for those with sensitive skin and a few, more aggressive laser treatments that may require some downtime before resuming social activities.
Main Benefits of Fraxel Treatments:
Fraxel Dual is a new, cutting edge laser technology that Dr. Ostad uses with those who suffer from actinic keratosis (AKs). Common among older patients with fair skin and greater sensitivity to the sun, this condition can now be cured using the latest Thulium laser system from Fraxel. The device showed significant results in clinical research and was approved by the FDA to clear the skin of patients with actinic keratosis.
Schedule of Treatments
In most cases, Dr. Ostad will recommend a treatment plan that will include three to five Fraxel sessions. Ideally, each session should be followed by four to six weeks of rest, however in some cases patients may be able to shorten the time between sessions to two weeks, upon Dr. Ostad’s assessment.
Do These Treatments Hurt?
Dr. Ostad and his staff will ensure minimal discomfort by applying an anesthetic cream prior to the Fraxel session and using cool air to calm down treated areas while in session. Following the Fraxel session, you may feel as if you were tanning in the sun for too long, but this will often be felt only for one to three hours post-procedure.
Possible Side Effects
Most of Dr. Ostad’s patients report various degrees of swelling and reddish skin following each session, based on the sensitivity of your skin and whether the treatment was mild or intensive. In addition, temporary side effects such as itchiness, skin dryness, peeled, flaky or bronze skin can occur. Dr. Ostad and his staff will provide you with post-care instructions to deal with these effects and keep them to a minimum.
Post-Procedure Sun Exposure
Dr. Ostad recommends Fraxel patients to wear 30+ SPF sunscreen every morning before leaving the house and if possible, use a large hat for further protection. Patients are advised to refrain from exposing treated areas to the sun for a period of three or more months after the last treatment session.
Will The Results be Long Lasting?
In general, patients can expect to preserve the results of their treatment if they follow post-care instructions and take a good care of their skin. Dr. Ostad and his staff can provide you with personalized skin care regimen to maximize the results of your treatments. Sun exposure can reverse the effects of Fraxel, especially in patients with melasma.
